Workshop on "Video Streaming Technologies" on 10th August 2009 at School of IT, JNTU, Kukatpally, Hyderabad

The increasing number of internet and mobile users and recent advances in Information and Communication Technologies(ICT) have enabled  a new era of multimedia applications over wired and wireless networks. Among these, video streaming is an important application that lets people to watch their favourite videos on their PCs or mobile phones. There is a huge potential for video content developers and service providers to develop streaming applications and reach mass market.  Service providers are offering  value added services(VAS) like audio and video streaming, Internet radio, video blogs, IPTV, Mobile TV etc to the end users.  In order to provide these services across desktop and mobile users, there are number of challenges like varying bandwidths, different protocols, heterogeneous networks, support of video formats and codes, screen sizes etc that are to be considered.

Keeping in view the importance of this technology, C-DAC, Hyderabad conducted a one day workshop on Video Streaming Technologies on 10th August 2009 from 9.00am to 6.00pm at Seminar Hall, School of Information Technology, JNT University,  Kukatpally, Hyderabad.

Dr. D N Reddy, VC, JNT University, Hyderabad, during his inaugural address has emphasized the need of embracing the new technologies like Video Streaming to enhance the traditional class room teaching.  He felt that there is a need to deploy Wi-Fi environment in the University/College campus and exploit the need of Streaming video lectures for every student, if possible, over mobile.  

Dr. Ankush Mittal, Professor, IIT Roorkee, while delivering the Keynote Address has given the possible ways of Streaming, applications, issues, challenges and the possible solutions in using the Video Streaming technologies.

The objective of this workshop is to expose the participants on various video streaming technologies, servers, protocols, challenges & applications.

Around 35 participants from JNTUH College of Engineering, St. Ann's Engineering College-Chirala, MVSR Engineering College-Hyderabad, VNR VJIET-Hyderabad, Osmania University, Kern Learning Solutions, CBN Multimedia Pvt Ltd, BSNL, National Informatics Centre, National Institute for Rural Development, Honeywell Technology Solutions Ltd, Defence Electronics Research Laboratory, HCL Infosystems Ltd attended this workshop.
