SPARK Solution won the City Strategist Award 2009 -Third Prize and accredited as Silver Team
As part of the National Ubiquitous Computing initiative supported by DIT, C-DAC Hyderabad has developed a Smart Parking System (SPARK). The System is currently deployed at Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) parking complex, Abids, Hyderabad and is being frequented by commuters.
The parking solution is a sensor-based system, in which sensors are deployed in each parking lot to detect the presence of the vehicle. This information can be availed in real time. There are entrance display and guiding display nodes, which assist the drivers in finding a vacant lot in the parking area, thereby easing a commuter's search within parking complex.
The team entered the Citizens for City contest organized by the Foundation for Futuristic Cities in the month of May 2010. The contest was well accepted and received more than 100 strategies that were scrutinized by eminent jury members from various strata of society. 30 teams were selected to present their strategies to another jury of city planners and secretaries of government administrative bodies. The team was awarded with “Third Prize” for their strategies and performance. This event not only justified the quality and performance of the efforts expended, but has also lead to opening of important development avenues, accepted by the government authorities to make Hyderabad a city to reckon with in the future.
