The open source softwares are the future for the IT world as there are many benefits of open source softwares (OSS) like free and openess in usage with no payments for licensing. Thus the initiatives to enhance the use of Free/Open Source Software in the country are taken and as part of it, the Indian Version of Linux Distribution BOSS (Bharat Operating System Solutions) is initiated by CDAC with support from NRCFOSS at Chennai. BOSS to become the National Desktop is our motive.

Its made specifically for the Indian environment and localized in the respective regional languages, it is a Govt. of India's initiative towards equipping common people with the benefits of computer technology as a free & opensource operating system. Currently BOSS can process 9 Indian languages- Bengali, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Punjabi, Tamil, and Telugu in various text editors such as gedit, Open-Office, Yudit, Thunderbird Mail client. To avail this Indian Produst to all Indians, CDAC organised support centres in variuos states and conducts several trainings/workshops.

Hyderabad BOSS Support Centre provides trainings to different schools, colleges and the government organisations. We also provide hands on trainings for the people to understand, make them easy to use and get them acquainted with the new environment.
